Considering my musical taste, I cannot believe I have never heard of Karen Dalton before! Isn’t it weird when you hear a voice and get an image of what their face might look like…then realize you were way wrong?

There is a bit of a resemblance to your madonna picture you have posted on the right side of the video. Karen turns her head and closes her eyes and gets the position just about the same. I like her voice also. Thanks for posting. Sarah
She is a beautiful woman…looks much like many of the faces I paint or at least what is in my mind. i watched several of her videos…i feel like I know her or something. That is what good musicians do to people..they connect at a deeper level through the language of song and meet people on a common ground…often the common ground of pain or love or truth. When an artist can bare it all many will respond and feel connected.
Now i am remembering a song my dad would sing:
cowboys have to fall in love get hurt and all that bit, Let their hearts hang out so they can write you all a hit…
Thanks for sharing …. love it. And yes I agree about music… Stevie Nicks said about Tom Petty in one of her songs that the “music was hauntingly familiar” … I find your art hauntingly familiar too Jane.
This video has a retro 1930′s feel to me. I find myself very drawn to any visual or performing arts medium that has the feeling of transporting to another time. Thank you very much for sharing this one Jane!
Best Regards,
Larry Cashatt
Wow, I didn’t realize that this video is almost 40 years old until I just now googled Karen Dalton. In addition to Karen’s great folksy talent, the videographers were way ahead of their time! Thanks again for posting it.
Best Regards,

You are right Larry!
Here’s the info they share on youtube:
Greenwich Village folk singer (and big Dylan influence) Karen Dalton performing her version of “It Hurts Me Too”, originally made popular by Elmore James. From a French documentary filmed in NYC, 1969.
This footage and more is now available as the bonus DVD that comes with some Karen Dalton reissue CDs. Highly recommended are the lost live recordings of Karen Dalton (also including the DVD) form Delmore Recordings: http://delmorerecordings.com/?page_id=3
