Forestlife Creations: Dean Robertson

Every once in awhile I like to feature other artists on this blog…

Dean Robertson is an old friend of mine. He is highly creative and, like me, has a love for taking what others throw away and turning it into something beautiful.

Here’s what Dean says:

Hey, this is Dean. My creations are handmade, inspired by the voices within the wood and bone. I hold the material and it speaks to me telling me how to reveal its hidden secrets. The wood I use is mostly reclaimed from the recycle bin at our school, and various firewood piles, and much of the bone comes from when I still lived in Alaska living the hunting and gathering life. Not even the bones get wasted with me…

. . . I first started carving wood and bone living deep in the forests of Alaska, where I learned the ways of the Wilds, and the Native Americans. I learned how to walk…I learned how to hear…I learned how to feel. It’s a different way of life…It is the beginnings of life…It is my reality…I will always walk…I will always share…

He also makes pretty things for your hair!

On EBAY tonight!

Out of the Office…and a video for you…

I had to leave my house on very short notice to visit a family member. Please keep this in mind if you find it difficult to reach me or I take forever to respond to emails.

Meanwhile, here’s the “condensed” version of the painting. I am not totally done…so I will post a final photo when I get back home.

Progression of Venus

023I am working on my rendition of Venus. You may have caught the video I had posted earlier…I took it down because it was too long and boring (and there was even more to come!). I have been recording the process but I think I will wait and condense it quite a bit before I post it.

I’ll tell you one thing…you can learn a lot about painting by recording yourself and watching!

I have very limited experience with figure drawing or painting.  As you know, my concentration has mainly been a woman’s face. Then, I tried hands a few times. Now I am going to do more complete bodies. I have been needing to be artisticly s-t-r-e-t-c-h-e-d and there is no way I am going to get good at it without practicing so…practice, I will.
