Days Gone By

Yesterday I worked on the encaustic tutorial and this is what I made for the demonstration.

Days Gone By 12″ x 12″ Encaustic Painting

The girls are from a line drawing I made from this image:

GetAttachment.aspxI do not remember who sent it to me (hopefully you will visit and see what came of it) but it is a photo from when I asked people to send me images to work with.

I just love, love, love this wax. I go to sleep thinking about it and wake up in a hurry to do it again.

Encaustic Abstact Delight!

first encaustics 002I spent all day playing with encaustic wax and paint. What a fabulous medium! What joy to blend colors like that!

first encaustics 005If this looks like fun to you…and you’ve been wondering about how to do it…hang tight, ’cause I am putting together a video tutorial this week and I am psyched.

Remember when I showed how to collage with beeswax on You Tube and Creative Textures?….Well, that works alright, but I understand a bit more now. There are a few extra ingredients and a couple more steps one should take to ensure a long-lasting creation.

I hope you will join me when I get everything set up. I am loving this process and want others to try it too!

Beautiful Poet: Patty Griffin

I know I am no Patty Griffin…but I can TOTALLY relate to what she says at the beginning of this video. She puts into words the very thing I go through with my paintings.

And that song…I was blowing my nose on my skirt after 60 seconds.

Angel Block Print

Yesterday I had to sit by the computer most of the time to get people signed in to the new class (not complaining…so very thankful) so I thought I would get out my carving supplies and see what I could come up with. Then, I remembered all the fabulous photos that people sent to me…

This is the photo that grabbed my attention:

Angel Oak Hill 450

And here is what I came up with:

001oil based ink on cheap watercolor paper

acrylic wash behind the print…still drying

I am going to keep working my way through the photos and share my progress as I go.

Thank you Linda!
