Last night I struggled my way through this painting.

At times I knew I was filled with the Holy Spirit…

And other times, I felt frustrated nearly to tears…

When it was done, I stood back to have a look…and sighed.

After many days of family and fun, I am back to work. Before my eyes opened yesterday morning, I had a vision of Mary and Jesus and I knew what I would paint. I really feel my work moving in a very iconic direction. I am in love with Roman-Catholic art (and am not even Catholic). I have decided to study more about the symbolism.

In this painting I showed Jesus’ hand pointing toward his Father and at the same time pointing to his mother’s heart. (My daughter says it looks like he is giving the peace sign)
Later tonight I am going to paint a huge Jesus (the man). I am always afraid to paint Jesus. I feel like I should not dare try to depict Him…for who can paint God? But, Jesus came in the form of man…and we know what man looks like, right? I am going to work off of some 6th century paintings.
This painting can be found on EBAY.
It is on a big wooden cupboard door that measures 23.5″ X 18.5″ and the halos are embossed tin.
